The PowerShot A710 IS incorporates many of the features that made its predecessor successful, including multiple shooting modes, full manual mode, VGA movie clip recording mode, ISO 800 equivalent shooting mode, and a 2.5-inch LCD screen.

High image quality:

The 6x optical zoom lens provides a focal length of 35mm to 210mm (35mm film equivalent) while keeping the camera compact. The optical real image viewfinder allows you to compose shots across the entire zoom range without using the LCD screen, which also improves battery life.

The Optical Image Stabilizer on the PowerShot A710 IS has been specially developed for this camera and draws on Canon's experience since the technology was first introduced in the professional EF series lenses. The Image Stabilizer effectively compensates for camera shake to reduce image blur, allowing photographers to shoot at shutter speeds up to three stops slower. It allows you to increase image stability when shooting at full zoom, as well as when shooting in Macro mode, which allows you to shoot objects that are at a distance of 1 cm from the lens. The image stabilizer digital chip processes up to 4000 signals per second, ensuring high accuracy of lens element movement and effective compensation of any unwanted hand movements. Complementing the optical image stabilizer are the PowerShot A710 IS's ISO 800 equivalent and High ISO Auto shooting modes for low-light or indoor shooting.

Flexible photography options:

The new Safety Zoom feature takes advantage of the camera's high resolution, providing an extra level of zoom without sacrificing image quality. Even when shooting at 12x magnification, the level of resolution remains high, allowing you to create professional-quality postcard-sized (10 x 15 cm) prints. The photographer can also use the new digital tele-converter3 – similar to the tele-converter attached to the camera – to shoot at greater distances.

20 shooting modes, including a special scene shooting mode, help you work in difficult shooting conditions, while manual modes give more experienced users full control of exposure settings. In addition, the My Colours function allows you to apply artistic effects to images during and after shooting right in the camera. The PowerShot A710 IS also provides a choice of five video clip recording modes, including VGA (30 fps) and QVGA (60 fps) video clip recording.

Improved LCD Screen:

The 2.5-inch LCD screen with Grid Line mode (grid display) helps compose and align the frame. A convenient 3:2 aspect ratio template lets you view the portion of the image that would be printed on standard photographs. A new overexposure warning feature highlights overexposed areas in images.\"
