— special products for reducing water hardness.

Hard water is water with a high content of calcium and magnesium salts. These salts, firstly, impair the effectiveness of detergents, and secondly, lead to intense scale formation on the heating elements. To neutralize them, compositions of this type are used: they act on the principle of ion exchange, “changing” the calcium and magnesium contained in the water for sodium, which does not give the mentioned negative effects.

Note that products of this type are intended mainly for process water used in washing machines and dishwashers. Excessive hardness is also undesirable for drinking water, but it is better to soften it with filters with the appropriate function.
