For beginner gamers
Sven AP-U988MV is a convenient and inexpensive wired headset for beginner gamers or a fallback for more advanced gamers. The headband of the headphones is made of black matte plastic and reinforced with a metal plate. The softtouch coating does not look quite familiar and for some reason collects fingerprints. At the same time, the headband with the pillow turned out to be quite successful, the headset is securely pressed to the head and does not strive to fly off during a sharp turn. Soft ear cushions made of polymers that look like eco-leather tightly wrap around the ears, but do not press. Passive soundproofing is quite decent, external noise is almost inaudible, but the sound from the bowls at high volume breaks through well, so that those who are nearby will not be very comfortable. On the other hand, the cable length reserve allows you to sit down at a comfortable distance. In Sven, they did not become greedy, they measured out generous 2.2 metres against the standard 1.3.
Immersion effect
The implementation of the microphone in terms of convenience also did not let us down. It is retractable, with a flexible neck that allows you to give any position. But the sound quality leaves much to be desired. This is due to the low sensitivity of -58 dB. The recording turns out to be deaf and quiet, and the voice seems to be 20 years older. Sound card software can improve the situation, but not much. The sound in the headphones themselves is much better. It could not be otherwise, given the presence of 50 mm dynamic drivers. But sharpening for games is palpable. The music sounds somehow artificial, with raised highs and a flat bass, but all sorts of “boom” effects are worked out dynamically and accentuated. In the same CS:GO game, it is quite easy to find out where the shots, explosions and steps come from.
Controversial design
And if it is difficult to cling to the sound quality, then I would like to catch the designers and carry out explanatory work with them. The fact is that the headphones came out at the beginning of 2017, when the fashion for a “smart” gaming design has not yet come to naught, and they look accordingly. Here you have traditional red and black colours, and an abundance of unnecessary decorative elements, and strange lighting as a cherry on the cake. On the side of each cup, vein-like light elements flow, which shimmer with all the colours of the rainbow and do not lend themselves to any control. I plugged the headphones into the USB port and that’s it, I can’t turn off this “beauty” in any way, I can’t adjust it in any way. If Apple designer Johnny Ive one day goes to hell, he will not be boiled in a cauldron, but will be forced to watch Sven AP-U988MV shimmer for ages.
USB connection
Oh yes, the second important point is just a USB port instead of the usual 3.5 audio.
