Wool

— natural wool is a traditional material for blankets, which has not lost its popularity even today. Wool is very warm and breathable at the same time, besides, it is believed that it has a relaxing effect on the muscles (although it is likely that it is more about self-hypnosis than about the “magic” properties of the material itself). Also, this material is resistant to dirt and durable. Its disadvantages are rather high cost, difficulty in cleaning (not all wool can be machine washed) and a small number of colours. In addition, this material is not suitable for people prone to allergies — wool itself can cause unwanted reactions, in addition, dust mites and other "living creatures" (harmless for a healthy person, but undesirable for an allergic person) can appear in it.

Different types of wool can be used in plaids, here are the most popular options:

— Sheep. The easiest and most affordable option. Such wool can be prickly, but not necessarily — a lot of blankets are made from fine wool, soft and pleasant to the touch.
— Camel. Perhaps the warmest type of wool; at the same time, camel blankets are thin and soft. Their drawback is the scarcity of colour shades (camel hair is usually not dyed, because it is very difficult).
— Cashmere. Wool of mountain goats. And in terms of softness and warming ability, it is not much inferior to camel, and often comparable to it. However, such blankets are not cheap, and if used carelessly, they wear out quickly.
— Alpaca. The wool of the South American alpaca is almost not subject to “settlement” by dust mites, so such blankets can be a real salvation for allergy sufferers. At the same time, it is stronger, warmer and lighter than sheep, besides it is distinguished by an abundance of natural colours (more than two dozen).
