This arrangement is especially useful when using a tripod and/or observing various objects above the horizon. For example, a tripod is often located noticeably below eye level, and you have to lean towards the tube — in this case, it is easier to get to the eyepiece bent up than directed along the axis of the tube. This advantage becomes even more pronounced if the pipe is to be angled upwards. The main disadvantage of curved eyepieces, compared to straight eyepieces, is that it is more difficult to aim at the target, which can create difficulties for a person without skills.
