I run a video blog and have already achieved some success on this slippery slope. Since I shoot some of my content on the street, a good and unpretentious camera for this task is very desirable. I used a simple and unpretentious digital camera from Canon, but when I saw a news item about the announcement of this camera, I realized that this was exactly what I needed. The ability to interview people on the street while filming everything around them is a real find and a highlight for any video blog. I already had the smartphone needed to work with this camera, a Samsung Galaxy S6, so I ordered the device as soon as it became available. I’ll say right away that the reality turned out to be somewhat harsher than expectations. The main feature of this camera is completely unique. It allows you to shoot true 360-degree video. This is done by two sensors with fish-eye optics. Then the video is saved to a memory card and work with it becomes possible from it. Moreover, thanks to the bundled Gear360 ActionDirector software and the well-known professional Adobe Premier editor, processing such a video is not much more difficult than a regular one. In addition, the camera can operate with only one sensor, that is, with a coverage of not 360, but 180 degrees. It can record video with a resolution from 3840x1920 to 1920x960 at 30 fps. And with a resolution of 2560x1280, you can pamper yourself with a frame rate of 60 fps. There is no problem of overheating and condensation, which I was so afraid of. The quality of the video turned out to be lower than in promotional videos and this is clearly noticeable. The video turns out quite soapy and an acceptable low noise level is observed only in good sunlight or artificial light. As a result, any mid-range action camera like the SJ5000X Elite for $150 provides much clearer FullHD images. As soon as the first WOW effect wears off, the places where the images from two cameras are stitched together become noticeable. The battery is large, as much as 1350 mAh, but due to the fact that there are two sensors, the consumption is almost double. As a result, it is better not to count on more than 45 minutes of filming. True, the battery is made to be easily removable, so you can buy a spare one and change it as needed. |
