good model, I liked it

I paid attention to the specified product because of the good ratio of cost and volume. The declared resource also pleased me. If nothing happens, the drive will be able to operate for at least 10 years. True, I made a mistake with the amount of memory. It turned out that the system and the necessary programs took up about 30 GB, and it was not clear what to do with the rest. Media can also be stored on the HDD. It seems to me that such a volume is appropriate if you use the disk as the only one and do not clutter it with unnecessary things.
The main thing is the large volume. There will be a lot of free space on the drive. But who uses it how? I liked the high data reading speed - about 525 MB/s. It's a pity that the recording is a little lower. The cost is also at a reasonable level, given the current exchange rate. The purchase was not affordable for me. It's nice that the body is made of metal. The material promotes good heat dissipation during operation. The SSD is normally compatible with SATA II and III connections, although in the first case the speed will be significantly lower due to worse bandwidth.
There are several unpleasant moments. Firstly, the Smart monitoring program did not recognize my hard drive. Therefore, it will not be possible to check the remaining life resource with its help. Secondly, the reading speed is lower than that of other copies from other companies. This does not affect the speed of operation, it is simply unclear why different numbers are obtained with the same controllers and memory cells. Maybe it's a bug in the firmware...

net benefit

Apacer AS510S Pro II is one of the cheapest solid state drives with durable MLC memory (withstands three times more rewrite cycles than TLC) in east european retail. While other MLC models cost almost twice as much as TLC, Apacer costs only a third. It turns out downright SSD meta? Let's look "under the hood" and figure out what's the catch.

Consistently fast

Inside the metal casing of the AS510S Pro II are indeed the most genuine MLC flash memory chips. And this means that this SSD has a consistently high, by the standards of the SATA interface, the speed of not only sequential reading (530 MB / s), but also sequential writing (520 MB / s). Of course, there is no virtual SLC cache from the triple amount of free disk space, and as a result of drawdowns in write speed after it is full. This is another advantage of MLC over TLC, in addition to durability.

Honorary Veteran

Another thing is that the memory, although MLC, is old, still planar (2D) — manufactured by Micron. She, like the Silicon Motion SM2246EN controller, has a low read and write speed of 4K blocks by modern standards. Simply put, the AS510S Pro II processes small files of the operating system and programs more slowly than a solid TLC SSD. Even a 256 MB cache from RAM doesn't help much.

For video editors, not programmers

As a result, we can recommend Apacer AS510S Pro II to those who often have to overwrite large files at work — these are, first of all, video editors. But programmers working with databases should opt for a modern TLC SSD on the SM2256 controller and fast IMFT (Intel-Micron joint venture) 3D memory, such as the Apacer AS340.
